Dr. J. Pitney Recreation Park Update: 3/3/06

The re-grading of the football field and soccer field finally was complete after over 15 months of waiting for the contractor to except the responsibility to correct the fields.

Pitney Park is approximately 98% complete. Modifications to grading in the drainage basins still are required. Drainage Basin near football field still does not drain completely. Sandy clay bottom should be replaced with clean fill as required by Public Bid Construction Documents. Final sign-off by Cape- Atlantic Soil Conservation District is still required.

The City is added post & rail fencing to help control parking and traffic circulation.

Once the construction is complete Absecon City residents will have a 103 acre active/passive recreation park consisting of 10 lighted recreation fields, including a football field, football/soccer field, soccer field, 7 baseball fields, 4 tennis courts, tot lot, parking areas, batting cages and jogging/bike path lined with benches. The project was originally scheduled to be completed by March 1, 2003.
